Ski lifts for bikes?

I'm wondering if anyone has got their bikes on the ski-lifts when there is no snow. I was in Bansko a couple of weeks ago and the lifts didn't seem to have that capability. Some people told me it had been done, others thought not. Someone also said that there was a serious mtb shop in Bansko. Any ideas?

On the question-are lifts in bulgaria ment to transport bikes-No.
But that doesn't mean that it can't be done.
You just need the right approach to the problem at hand:D

Well, most of the ski-lifts don't work in the summer. We are using mainly the sit-on tourist lifts and hanging the bike on a pedal or the saddle, while holding it with one hand.

On the other side, there are cabin lifts that are capable of taking 1-2 guys with bikes IN the cabin, for example the Simeonovo lift in Sofia.
It's ugly and unconfortable but it works.

For now there are no dedicated or at least bike-carrying capable lifts in Bulgaria. I hope that will change soon, but one never knows...

yep, as a matter of fact there's a Salewa shop in Bankso, but it's not big nor that good.
that's the only shop in Bansko you can call "mountain" at least from my experience.

I wanted to propose this for a long time but never dared. Now looks a right moment.
Many of the seat-lifts serve some mountain huts. So they are in working order all the year. It is just that thej are working only when groups of tourists need to be transported. If about 20-30 of us get organized to go call and reserve enough rooms and promise to buy enough lift-cards they may keep the lift working all day, or at least stop it for us to gather and then turn it on?!
What do you think? No federations, no shit, Just a few to sinchronize a free weekend in the spring to go where we can find a seat- or a cabinlift?

I hope people can get together on this - there was a bit of resistance in Scotland from skiers to mtb-ers using the lifts and ruining the mountain-sides. Eventually there fears were calmed and places that stay open in the summer for riders now do good business. This was helped by the shortage of snow nearly forcing the lifts out of business. The recent racing at Fort William was very successful and the lifts stay open for riders - it costs about £15 for a day pass which is OK.

I'm thinking of the 3 main resorts BAnsko, Borovets and Pamprovo plus I have a list of about 20 smaller places. The point is if enough people turn up then the operators would be stupid to turn away good money!!!

IMHO you seriously underestimate the stupidity of the bulgarian lift operators, but who knows? Miracles happen every day...:D:D
