Rockshox Issues Safety Recall on 2010 Boxxer
03/32/09 – Boulder, CO
Manufacturer Rockshox, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SRAM Corporation, is voluntarily recalling all released
original model year 2010 Boxxer forks in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
A specification error in the assembly line has led to forks being assembled with incorrect damper components. The
recall affects all 35mm stanchion Boxxer forks, including but not limited to pre-production items.
SRAM has received more than 260 reports of the damper system not functioning correctly, mostly second-
hand via the internet. The dampers were assembled without the required shims on the low pressure side of the
internal compression piston. Without these shims, there is no compression damping, and the fork may reach
maximum travel, or bottom out, suddenly and excessively, potentially causing the rider to fall and suffer injury.
Zero instances of injury have yet been reported.
Localised damage to the fork may also occur due to repeated hard bottom-out. All consumers should check their
own forks to see if they are involved in the recall. If you believe your fork is involved in this recall, contact your
local Rockshox dealer and they will arrange the free installation of the additional required shims.
